International Arbitration Group Internship (f/m/x)

We welcome applications from motivated recent law school graduates, including junior lawyers, with a strong academic background and demonstrated interest in international arbitration. Previous working experience in international dispute settlement/arbitration would be a strong advantage. Fluency in written and spoken English is essential; fluency in other languages, in particular German, French, or Eastern European languages, is desirable, but not required.

An internship with the Freshfields international arbitration group would expose you to a wide range of cross-border work, including some of the most complex and interesting international disputes in the market. Your role would entail assisting the team with all aspects of its caseload, including carrying out legal and factual research, assisting with written submissions and oral hearings, as well as business development activities.

Remuneration will be determined in accordance with Austrian law and is based on qualifying experience. The minimum annual gross salary is EUR 24,500, paid monthly in accordance with Austrian law.

International Arbitration (f/m/x)

We are looking for committed and highly qualified associates (f/m/x) with a special interest in international arbitration to support our team in Vienna.

Your Tasks

Your future job with us will include a diverse range of tasks in advising and representing international clients in relation to arbitration disputes.  This includes:

  • Conducting in-depth factual research (through document review, witness interviews, etc) across a wide variety of industries
  • Conducting legal research on points of national and international law
  • Drafting memoranda and analyses of disputed issues for internal and client consideration
  • Drafting legal briefs for submission to arbitral tribunals; and
  • Engaging in proactive business development and market profiling activities.

Your Profile

You must have completed your legal studies of Austrian law with exceptional results, be able to communicate, read and draft fluently both in English and German, be comfortable working with colleagues from diverse backgrounds, be a self-motivated entrepreneurial thinker and value legal creativity. Additional assets – but not requirements – include (i) previous exposure to arbitration (including, for example, participation at the Vis Moot or the Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition), (ii) previous experience working or interning in a law firm; and (iii) academic or work experience abroad, particularly in an English-speaking country.

Foreign trade law, economic sanctions and investment control law (f/m/x)

We are looking for committed and highly qualified associates (f/m/x) with a special interest in foreign trade, economic sanctions and investment controls to support our team in Vienna.

Your Tasks

We advise national and international companies from a wide range of sectors on foreign trade law, in particular EU economic sanctions laws, EU export controls and investment controls. Our “Global Sanctions and Trade Group (GST)” works very closely with colleagues from other areas of law and offices, in particular our US offices in New York and Washington D.C.

Within the scope of your future work, you will be in charge of the following main areas:

  • EU and UN economic sanctions law
  • Interface with US economic sanctions law
  • Export control issues
  • Investment control laws, such as approvals of company acquisitions under the Austrian Foreign Investment Law (InvKG)

Your Profile

You will have completed your legal studies with above-average results, have excellent English and basic German skills, are an entrepreneurial thinker and dedicated lawyer. Internship – Freshfields Unplugged (f/m/x)

To strengthen our team in Vienna we are looking for focused and engaged law interns (f/m/x) for 2023 to work among our varying practice groups for the duration of one-month respectively.

Your Tasks

Get to know us “unplugged” and discover exciting insights into our daily work and team while gaining experience in an international law firm. You will support us to deliver excellent work for our top clients among the various practice groups, for example:

  • Support our associates and partners with everyday work
  • Sit in on negotiations and court hearings
  • Help us draft briefs and consultations as well as learn how to construct memos and revise contracts
  • Literature research
  • Support with the production of publications and certificates

Freshfields Vision Scholarship

Our scholarship for dedicated students of law to promote diversity in the Legal Industry. 

The Freshfields Vision Scholarship, in collaboration with the Springboard association, offers students with international family history the opportunity to participate for one year (October 2022 to September 2023) in a support program that includes mentoring and training and financial support of 250 euros per month.
The students will be supported by Freshfields lawyers and gain exciting insights into an international law firm in which all dimensions of diversity are are practiced.

Your profile

The scholarship is aimed at committed students (f/m/x) who have successfully completed the second portion of the law program or have successfully completed the bachelor’s program in business law (WU Vienna) by the beginning of the scholarship.
