Arbitration (f/m/x)

We are looking for committed and highly qualified associates (f/m/x) with a special interest in arbitration to support our team in Vienna.

Your Tasks

Your future job with us will include a diverse range of tasks in advising and representing international clients in relation to arbitration disputes.  This includes:

  • Conducting in-depth factual research (through document review, personal interviews, etc) across a wide variety of industries
  • Conducting legal research on points of national and international law
  • Drafting memoranda and analyses of disputed issues for internal and client consideration
  • Drafting legal briefs for submission to arbitral tribunals; and
  • Engaging in proactive business development and market profiling activities.

Your Profile

You must have completed your legal studies with exceptional results, be able to communicate, read and draft fluently both in English and German, be comfortable working with colleagues from different backgrounds, be a self-motivated entrepreneurial thinker and value legal creativity. Additional assets – but not requirements – include (i) previous exposure to arbitration (including, for example, participation at the Vis Moot or the Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition), (ii) previous experience working or interning in a law firm; and (iii) academic or work experience abroad, particularly in an English-speaking country.

International Arbitration Group Internship (f/m/x)

To strengthen our IAG team in Vienna we are looking for focused and engaged long-term law interns (f/m/x).

We are accepting applications for internships of six months commencing in March or April 2021.

We welcome applications from outstanding undergraduate and postgraduate students in law, as well as those who have already graduated. English is the only language of which mastery is a pre-requisite, although fluency in other languages, in particular German, French, Russian or Eastern European languages, would be an advantage. In addition to that, a valid work permit in Austria is a requirement.

An internship in the Freshfields arbitration group would expose you to a wide range of cross-border work, including some of the most complex and interesting international disputes currently subject to arbitration.

Internship – Freshfields Unplugged (f/m/x)

To strengthen our team in Vienna we are looking for focused and engaged law interns (f/m/x) for 2022 to work among our varying practice groups for the duration of one-month respectively.

Your Tasks

Get to know us “unplugged” and discover exciting insights into our daily work and team while gaining experience in an international law firm. You will support us to deliver excellent work for our top clients among the various practice groups, for example:

  • Support our associates and partners with everyday work
  • Sit in on negotiations and court hearings
  • Help us draft briefs and consultations as well as learn how to construct memos and revise contracts
  • Literature research
  • Support with the production of publications and certificates

Business Development Manager (f/m/x)

To start as soon as possible, our Vienna office is looking for a part-time (50%) Business Development Manager – (f/m/x)

In this exciting role you will manage the Business Development (BD) activities of the Austrian practice and the Vienna office, reporting into the Marketing & Business Development Partner in Vienna and the Team Lead, Continental Europe Local BD who is located in Brussels. You will collaborate very closely with the Vienna-based Marketing & Business Development Executive, who leads on operative marketing activities such as events, seminars and publications.

Your key responsibilities

  • Identify business opportunities with key and new clients in the Austrian market; provide intelligence on opportunities; design and implement BD initiatives to realize opportunities
  • First point of contact for the Vienna partners and associates in relation to strategic BD initiatives
  • Network with our global MBD team and adapt the firm’s business development initiatives and materials so that they meet the needs of our clients and are fully leveraged for the Austrian market
  • Help drive client relationship management for selected Austria-based clients
  • Undertake research and analysis on clients, targets, markets and competitors
  • Liaise with our central PR team and external PR provider to help drive our PR and communications activities in the Austrian markets
  • Provide guidance and feedback to one MBD team member (MBD Executive) in the Vienna office

Key requirements

  • A degree preferably with a focus on economics, law or marketing
  • 5+ years in a similar role within a professional services environment and an understanding of the legal landscape
  • Eager to work as part of a global team
  • Excellent English and German skills at least on business fluent level are essential
  • Strongly positive, pro-active and pragmatic mentality and the ability to deliver high-quality results in a dynamic work environment
  • Ability to generate strategic and commercial insights on market trends and client needs and convert these into actions
  • High level of social competence and service orientation
  • Project management experience
